Jaguar XJ6 4.0S
"My Jaguar was first registered on 15/12/93 and is a 4.0S variant of the XJ40. The 3.2S and 4.0S were aimed at younger drivers and had stiffer, lower suspension than the standard XJ40 and a colour coded interior. This car is from the last year of XJ40 production and build quality and rust resistance is poles apart from the earlier versions of this model and it has to be said, late 1980's XJ40's do rust badly! I had been looking for a second classic car to run alongside my now supercharged Mini. I considered another Issigonis FWD design, a Rover SD1 and finally a Jaguar XJ40. I stumbled across this XJ40 in December 2006 whilst trawling through the Autotrader website and a deal was soon done. My aim is to use the XJ40 as a long distance car, travelling to the many classic car events I visit each year."
Here we take a look at some of the various BMC>Rover cars owned by members of Ian Nicholls' family.
This rare automatic Rover Vitesse belongs to Ian's father, Keith...
...as does this 3.9-litre Land Rover Discovery...
...while this sporty Rover Metro GTa belongs to his sister, Alice
Completing the fleet is Karen Nicholls' Rover 420. Now, remember that registration number...
Nostalgia corner
...because having been bought for 'peanuts' in the 1960s, it used to grace the family's Austin 1100...
...before being transferred to their much-loved Morris 1800 'Landcrab', being modelled here by a very young Alice Nicholls.
This 1981 Austin Metro 1.3HLS served the Nicholls family between 1986 and 1996, during which time it racked up over 100,000 miles.
And finally, here is Ian's Godfather with his 1966 Austin Mini Cooper. Could this be how Ian (who was born the same year) first caught the Cooper bug?.
